Mission ship identified – LO51 Queen Alexandra

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 | updates

Thanks to some great detective work on Flickr, one of the images is now identified as being of the mission ship Queen Alexandra, and three further shots, including one of some crew men being treated for illness or injury, may well have been taken on board…

My mother’s stepfather, Samuel Dawkins Farman, was the inaugural skipper of the Queen Alexandra. His brothers and brothers-in-law were all trawler skippers in Great Yarmouth, I think there were 7 in total, and 3 became mission ship skippers. I have a few photographs, but not of the ships themselves. Also details of the family going back to my great great grandfather, William Dawkins Farman, who perished in the lifeboat Rescuer tragedy off Gorleston in 1866.

wonderful to know that the work of the Mission Ships carried out by the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, is still on going in 2009
and needs our support. http://www.fishermensmission.org.uk
