Have another photo of her. I found a good possible in 1881 UK Census as
Miss L Dowling, living as a boarder at 23 Moreton Place, St George Hanover Square, London. Aged 21 born in Middlesex London. Shown as "Professional - (Actress)"

This is Felsted, Essex, with the  Guildhall in front of the church. The Swan is still open. This has been bugging me for ages so I'm glad to see it identified.</br>

He is not wearing aBlack Watch kilt.  He's wearing Gordon, thus he is a Gordon Highlander.

That's  interesting about the dress;and the effects of the condition ; I find the whole effect rather disconcerting as if she was looking into her future which has now come and gone......</br> The address isn't on actually the photo - but  it is on some  with a similar mount I've seen elsewhere.</br>

I think that the cottages are those on the green at Heydon, near Reepham.</br>

<p>The "V&A" had two funnels.  No sign of a second one here.  No White Ensign at the stern or a Royal Standard at the masthead, either.  Nice picture, though.
